Tuesday

Tuesday we were on our own - sort of a do the odds and ends sightseeing day. The plan was to revisit the places we found back in 1995. Of course we started with our usual breakfast at the Base Café and Grill. We revisited our jeweller from 1995 Lazslo Puzsar and Stavros ordered another opal earring. In 1995 we never rode the tram so this time we rode the free Circle Tram around the downtown. We got off at the Sydney Aquarium but decided not to go in because it turned out to take two hours to do the tour, time we didn't want to spend today. Lunch was phó at a place we spotted earlier in the week on Swanston Street called Mekong Phó where Bill Clinton once ate (two bowls!).

Sadly when we returned to the Melbourne Central the tower with the balloon (the balloon rose up and down inside the glass-domed center) and the clock (the giant clock played "Waltzin' Matilda" on the hour and marionettes came out of it and danced) was closed for repair.

Finally we walked through Chinatown Precinct again and through the Greek Precinct which is all of a one-block stretch on Lonsdale Street, before heading back to the hotel.

Our afternoon nap took us way past dinnertime. We ended up walking all the way back to the Greek Precinct to check out the Greek restaurants. Dinner was at Stalactites restaurant which was a place we'd only had lunch at back in 1995 - however it was a 24 hour place. Still they did make a really decent grilled platter!

Wednesday

Wednesday morning we slept in, then windowshopped until it was time for Stavros to pick up his opal earring. Except now Tom decided he'd liked one of the other stones and ordered that stone set for himself.

Later Tom ran back to the Medallion Greek Bakery in the Greek District to pick up some Galactobourecko to bring to the big family get-together at cousin Desi's house

Thursday

Thursday morning everyone slept in. Cousin Sol et al came and picked us up and we went and explored the vietnamese section of Melbourne and had some "dry soup" at Thanh Phong Restaurant

Then back to the hotel to get packed for our flight back to the states early in the morning. We went with cousin Alec and his date to dinner at the Hilton, followed by opening night in Melbourne of Madama Butterfly by Opera Australia.

After the show, the four of us took one last walk on the Southbank promenade and had one last cup of coffee together.

Friday

Friday morning we were picked up from our hotel at 7:30 to go to the airport. We arrived safely home in Chicago at 5 in the afternoon.
Only 9½ hours -  WE WISH  !!
